Dover Lynn Fox – When Youth Was Wasted

Being her newest release, the fresh tune of singer/songwriter Dover Lynn Fox has a crisp and energetic base. Backed by what I would describe as a neo-traditional backing, the track builds a soft but determined environment in which the expressive yet innocent vocals own the place without being too dominant.

In this unique setting, “When Youth Was Wasted” tells about decisions made, about things that have been, and nowadays’ thoughts. And it does so with a youthful texture and even a tiny bit of awesome sassiness. We all have been there before, right? We all were young, we did some questionable things in the past, and when we think about them today, our feelings are mixed. Maybe some things were plain stupid, but we also stand with some decisions even when they were questionable.

The tune builds this emotional main stage for me. Some things I would reverse in a second, while with some I still stand even when in doubt sometimes. The warm and understandable soft drive of the track is an awesome catalyst to give yourself room for doubt without getting bitter.

It all comes down to this: life is a constant learning process. Doesn’t matter if you’re a kid, a grown-up, or an aged and mature human being, every day we decide what to do. And the song wraps one thought for me: No regrets. Stop wondering about the what-ifs. Stand with who you are and what you’ve done. Embrace mistakes to learn from them. Celebrate the happy ends. Be at peace with the past to look into the warm and bright future. One that feels as gorgeous as the scenery the tune creates.
