Mykket Morton – I Care For You

There’s a unique melancholy connected to the latest release of German indie pop band Mykket Morton. Being about feeling trapped in an endless loop of wanting to reach out and building meaningful relationships but never really being able to overcome the anxiety of being vulnerable in that way, the track walks a very fine line between sadness and happiness. The track pictures the specific mood set perfectly, it’s a strange state of laughing when you rather want to cry, and vice versa.

With a jumpy bass, defensive piano melodies, and a soft groove induced by slightly unresting drum patterns which support the song’s theme perfectly, the track feels as if you were watching yourself from the outside. And it’s exactly this vibe I love about “I Care For You”. It’s sad, but not sobbing. It’s positive, but just to a point where you’d breathe out heavily while bowing down your head. It transmits the vulnerability of every human out there, and the mind-numbing quest to see clearly once in a while. Sonically, this track totally hits the mark regarding describing a very specific feeling. This isn’t happening too often out there in the musical landscape.
