Jacob Leo – Blockades

The new single of German multitalent Jacob Leo is a unique atmospheric builder. This tune is the hitman of nowadays’ mood sounds out there. With an unexpected intensity, the track knows how to create this dark, dense scenery that feels almost uncomfortable at parts. It’s one of these tunes where you get lured into a setting that holds way more than you would expect as listener.

Taking its time, the tune won’t rush telling you all of its secrets. A seemingly too slow rhythm in a dark synth textured room, stabbed by accentric arp synths build the perfect base for these melancholic, beaten-down vocals. Those vocals are using the atmosphere around them to intensify the emotional output. And as soon as the chorus hits, the track unleashes its calm yet profound essence, revealing what I’d like to describe as ‘goosebump bitterness’.

And that’s exactly what I love most about this tune. It’s this subliminal intensity that’s always present, and it’s delivered in a unreal you-have-seen-nothing-yet style. This is cold, dark, unforgiving emotion we’re talking about.
