Francois Mathian, Adrien de la Salle – Moonlight Prayer – Piano & Strings

The new collab work of Australian contemporary composer/violinist Francois Mathian, and French neo-classical composer Adrien de la Salle transmits emotion big time. With a heavy-hearted main concept that also contains a certain let go-vibe, “Moonlight Prayer” contains both piano and strings, merged in a unique expressive fashion.

And it’s not energetic expression we are talking about. The theme rather pours out a very distinct moodset. For me, the melodies are connected to a certain longing for something unreachable. Yet there’s also this (let’s call it) giving-in undertone present. The sound acknowledges passion and desire without neglecting the fact that what can not be, probably won’t ever be.

And it’s this mature base that fascinates me about this tune. Two artists, being able to connect their emotional take on a common moodset. The guys knew exactly where to emphasize and where to hold back. In the end, it’s this incredible balance of expressive style that gives the tune a greater meaning.
