IRYS – Weirdo

Check out this dark synth alley we’re standing in! The atmosphere created in the newest track of Berlin based singer/songwriter/producer IRYS sends goosebumps down your spine, while at the same time containing this irresistible soft groove that feels part doomed, part lightweight.

With bended melodic constructs along percussive elements and a quite minimal rhythm set, the track feels cold-metallic, but also like a dark place in your mind where you have to go when everything else fails. Being about feeling like you don’t fit in and then meeting a person who pretends to understand you, the track creates exactly this scenario. Something seems as if it won’t fully fit, and I love this quirky construct that feels familiar and odd at the same time.

What does NOT feel odd at all throughout the song, in a very intriguing and almost hypnotizing way, are these lush processed vocals. They are done fragile and silky, as if they were too shy to exist in daylight, only coming out at night when it’s dark and calm around. For me, the track defines what it feels like to be the weirdo.
