Francois Mathian, Lena Matienko – Frozen Clouds

Imagine a morning scenery in the mountains. Stepping outside of the wooden cabin you spent the night in, breathing in the fresh air, looking at the next mountain across the valley, you feel at ease and calm. Up here, there is no stress, no hectic, and the problems of the world feel far, far away. This peaceful surrounding was pretty much what the track of violinist Francois Mathian and composer Lena Matienko created in my head.

I simply love this calm atmosphere. The piano builds a soft base like snow, while the violin adds life to the scenery. There’s wind blowing, there are birds flying by, as the first rays of sunlight are reaching out through frozen clouds. This track is very versatile when it comes to details. While the signature calm icy base stays active throughout the whole song, the extra elements fill the scenery with life. The amount of emotion that’s transmitted with every single element of ‘Frozen Clouds’ is really stunning, and the fine expressional nuances are mindblowing. This track doesn’t just tell a story – it IS the story.
