Kane Miller – I Still Love You

Ever watched fireflies set off into the night skies? Destination unknown, yet determined to reach out for whatever is out there. In a way, the new release of Ontario based singer/songwriter Kane Miller reminded me of this picture.

With a very sensitive atmospheric base, the song manages to not only describe the moodset of the topic, it also holds a very defensive neutral ground while doing so. Soft rhythm sets blend with understanding melodies to comfort the vocals of Miller in a way that the track both gives you a heavy heart and makes you feel what’s at stake here. In my opinion it’s a very hard thing to transmit the topic vocally, because when living through this, there’s usually either bitterness or desperate sadness involved. But done in this sensitive manner, the track connects all the facts to a warm and soft ballad that tries to not push the listener into one or the other direction. It feels more like a recommendation to reconsider the facts.

As I told so many times before, I believe that you have to live through things like these to be able to fully transmit emotions with a song. ‘I Still Love You’ holds a very basic truth for all that are willing to listen closely. The end of a relationship is usually hard on both sides. We should never lose sight of the feelings of each other, no matter how heated or hopeless the situation might be. Miller knew exactly how to present this truth.
