LearningToDive – High & Dry

What starts mysterious and feels somewhat born out of the shadows, slowly builds into a retro accented melancholic pop rock theme. This, boys and girls, is the new release of New Zealand-based project LearningToDive.

I really like that the tune builds a certain floaty vintage atmosphere. The lyrics are delivered with a wise and tired undertone, this feels like being alone with your thoughts when you don’t know how you’ll proceed from here on. Deep thoughts. A very slow and methodical approach guarantees that ‘High & Dry’ doesn’t push you in any direction, this tune invites you to let your mind wander. Relaxed, yet with a very serious vibe going on there. As the tune progresses, it’s slowly building the big picture for the listener. There are additional vocals, and there’s more tension and density happening, yet the tune still keeps its floaty and almost dreamy core.

Overall, for me the track is very hard to categorize with a certain genre. This is music that needs a new genre to exist in. I’d like to name it… DiveRock.
