Estella Dawn – Petty

Boy, if you thought, you’d be down, the new release of Estella Dawn shows you how melancholy REALLY feels. But there’s a positive twist coming with it as well.

I love the fact that in ‘Petty’ the base mood feels really sad and beaten down, while the chorus parts lift your head up, so to speak. With a defensive piano and string backing, the soulful vocals of Dawn know which buttons to push to really make you feel what’s going on. During the chorus though, there’s this rhythm added, and the mood brightens all of a sudden. Being backed by vocal extra tracks and a more energetic and confident approach, the tune really paints a picture of ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for me. While every nuance of the verses gets you heavy-hearted, in the end the song shows you that this isn’t the end after all. You can be bigger than that. Even if you store anger and the urge of retaliation in a relationship that is failing, this tune tells in a very honest and calm way that overcoming these feelings and moving on is the right thing to do after all.
