Devan – Real Shot

A sensitive song that leaves a mark.

Backed by a roomy synth and a piano, the new release of Toronto-born, London-raised artist Devan manages to put a soft shimmer that is transmitted through your headphones. In a very emotion-rich atmosphere, the song is defensive, taking its time to deliver with a soft and constant slow beat and held back percussive elements and vocal extras which are beautifully mixed and blended.

And then, there’s this voice. There is something to find in the voice of singer/songwriter Devan that is just addictive to me. In this vulnerable and soft environment, the vocals sound very defensive and ultra-honest, leaving a stripped-down and somewhat bare vibe. This (in lack of better words) ‘naked approach’ attracts me big time in ‘What If’. It’s both the topic of the what if’s of old relationships, AND the sensitive setting that leaves a mark instantly once you heard the song. I believe the song originates from the heart, not just the vocal cords.
