Superstrings – Heavy

Much room to feel and little room to analyze.

The new release of german duo Carolin Heiss and Marc-Sidney Muller, better known as Superstrings, builds a really trippy atmosphere. You’ll find yourself in a fluid room scenario, the sound feels warm, calm and floaty. Everything in ‘Heavy’ seemingly happens for a reason, there are melodic backing synths to guide the way, mysterious cavern-ish one-shots and of course the ravishing voice to tell the story.

I love that the track takes its time to evolve. The slow groove doesn’t ‘push’ the song tempo-wise, and therefore the aforementioned ‘fluid’ room can happen. The track gets this trippy glow due to the backing, and this mysterious enchanting spark through the vocals. The track not only lets you enjoy the scenery, it rather abducts you into this other dimension where there’s much room to feel and little room to rationally analyze. The attached video backs this scenario perfectly, those blurry, unrefined images feel odd-world-ish and mysterious, giving the viewer some hints but not the full picture (literally). In a world where you are fed all your daily information on a silver platter, it’s videos like this that show you the way, but leaving the explanation up to your imagination.
