BTM Project – Midday Moon

Lost and lonely to a point where it hurts.

You know that feeling all too well. It’s when time is passing painfuly slow. Nothing seems to move at all, all you do is wait for that clock to tick down the seconds of the day. We probably all went through such a phase during lockdown the past weeks. The new release of Romanian multitalent Madalin Botezatu, releasing as BTM Project, creates this exact atmosphere for me. You gotta love the methodical ultra-slow groove there.

With a roomy reverbed piano and some atmospherical synth strings, there’s an incredible empty void created. The minimal percussive elements let the listener know about the huge room that is waiting to be filled here. The vocals are done emotional and melancholic, in a way that they seem to be held back to not disturb the silence happening here. As if they don’t want to accidentally wake the void, suppressing all the desperate screams in the head. The backing creates tiny movements, as if there were memories passing by in an instant, single thoughts rushing through the dark. All the while the calm voice is trying to stand its ground against the isolation in that awesome slow and lonely environment. In other words: ‘Midday Moon’ is a great picture painted on the mind canvas of the listener.
