David Baron, Fiona Glenn – Whisperers

This is one of the most intense ballads I ever heard.

In his newest release, multi-instrumentalist and producer David Baron got the ultra-talented vocalist Fiona Glenn on board. The (mostly string) backing is a perfect thoughtful base for the melancholic and emotionally intense vocals of Glenn. With a soft and warm approach, the story of the song is unfold slowly yet with an unbelievable amount of intensity. The song hit me with its unfiltered emotion so unexpected that I got tears in my eyes (and who knows me personally knows although I am an avid music lover, that almost NEVER happens). If you listen closely, you can hear the vocal processing change within the song, it goes from ghostly to confident and more upfront back to ghostly. This really feels as if the singer was floating around you, fading to the void then coming back for her message, before leaving again with that ghostly its-okay vibe that gives me goosebumps. Plus the backing changes its mood too, from heavy-hearted to uptempo borderline pop without ever leaving the main idea.

I love that this track contains so many nuances. From the fragile and glassy vocals of the 13 year-old singer (no. that’s not a typo.) to every single instrument track in there, ‘Whisperers’ transmits not only the notes but the feeling. A moodset, if you will. This track doesn’t just want to entertain you, it wants to reach out for feelings you may have buried somewhere deep inside your mind. Everybody involved in this production gave a piece of his/her soul to make this happen, and it absolutely shows.
