Staircase Wit – I’m Not Good

Back in 2019, Nashville based singer/Songwriter Cameron Weaver, better known as Staircase Wit, released this baby. I missed it until now. Well, better late than never, right?

For me, the sound of ‘I’m Not Good’ reminds me a bit of the good old times. Not retro or anything, but back when I was struggling with relationships, with the world and with myself. We all know this feeling, the world seems crumbling down around you, as you are in the middle of this mess called life. Weaver managed to create an uplifting tune that both captures the feeling and sends out a message. Backed by muted guitar and a roomy synth, at first the honest vocals of Weaver feel like being lost and unimportant in this big world setting, but once the driving guitars along the crisp drumset hit, the track injects a mighty uplifting portion of kickass.

This is probably what I love most about this track, it feels emotional without the melancholic grieving touch. Plus, the ‘how could you’-element of most tracks in this genre with this theme concept is missing. The tune instead has this ‘well, this sucks. How can I get myself outta this mess?’ vibe to find between the notes. The mix and performance is rock solid, there clearly was put a lot of time into recording the track as well as the video attached to it. When life kicks you down, this track of Staircase Wit will pull you back up.
