Chloe Lilac – Here’s Your Song

When I first watched the video and listened to the new release of Chloe Lilac, I didn’t expect the tune to be so intense on all levels.

What starts with a kind of lonely vibe in a vulnerable settting both music and picture-wise, shifted gear all of a sudden to smash you with the message over the head like a chairshot. But, first things first.

Backed by a guitar, the fragile vocals of Lilac start to tell a story, and after a while it gets clear that this isn’t meant as a vulnerable hurt melancholic ballad, its rather a way to get even with someone. When the song switches into chorus mode, there’s a lot of unexpected things happening. The synth bass backing feels almost threatening while the vocals keep this dangerous who’s-in-charge-NOW-huh vibe, the atmosphere changes into a harsh, almost cold environment, and the pictures of the video get really intense to show you the hard way what its about. The pictures don’t just tell you the story, they are telling you the mood as well, and along the melodic vocals which switch seamlessly between melancholic, sassy, confident and broken, ‘Here’s Your Song’ overall feels really intense. THIS is how to leave a mark and get under the skin of the listeners out there.
