Lealiza – Chorshat Ha’Ekaliptus

This tune of Detroit-based singer/songwriter Lealiza is filled with emotion and passion. With a very sensitive and fragile approach, the vocals transmit the theme in a very profound and sophisticated way. With only a minimal backing concept of piano and guitar, and in an otherwise quiet intimate room setting, the interpretation of a song by Namoi Shemer published in 1967 fills the air with an accessible warm and enchanting vibe.

“Chorshat Ha’Ekaliptus” (“The Eucalyptus Grove”) transmits what I would like to call a “memory texture” for me. It brings memories, dreams, and experiences that are not my own but can be felt like they were. Due to the rendition of Lealiza, the track combines both old and new, giving the theme a majestic and captivating melancholic glow in the process. Yet this is not a sad song at all, it’s rather a wise and understanding song filled with passion and heartfelt honesty. And in the end, it’s this honesty that attracts me the most in this song. The melodies transmit an unreal amount of emotion, and I simply love when there’s as much feeling as there is melody.
