The sound of André Nault, the brain and creative force behind “Stand Up and Say No”, is a thing of beauty, mostly because of it’s simplicity. I love it when the main concept of a song just contains one rule: do your thing. This is exactly what happens here.

Nault has a unique set of passionate vocals, a distorted guitar/bass combination and some later in the song introduced synths. Those ingredients create a melodic statement that hits you like a brick. Seriously, I went from “oh, happy day” to “uhm. wait. what. I feel like it’s time to call in sick.” within those three minutes because for me there’s not a doubt that the Ottawa based singer/songwriter/producer is the real deal, as they say. He’s not an act, he’s not pretending to be a musician, from what I know, he puts little pieces of his heart and his soul into his music. For me, every aspect of the track (and other tracks available over his website and other major streaming sources out there) practically screams out the passion, the drive and the emotion of a real musician. I read on his bio that he abandonded music a while ago, but wasn’t able to let it go. That’s the curse of any good musician out there, been there as well. In the case of Nault, I’m really happy that music continues to be a part of who he is. Why? Just listen, guys. It’s all in his music.
