Ottolien – Was wollen wir?

With a lightweight approach, the newest release of the Ottolien brothers manages to take care of one of the heaviest questions out there: “what is it we want?”

What draws me towards this song the most is the fact that there are several genres mixed. You can clearly hear that one of the brothers originates from rap, while the other has chosen pop as his home. And for this and other tracks of Ottolien, you can feel that there’s a chemistry among those two that merges different genres as if it was the easiest thing to do. This leads to this track to be both groovy, melodic and emotional. (Plus, the sing-along oohs are really sticking to your head in no time, believe me.)

In times where there are a lot of shallow genre-specific one-hit-smash hits out there, tracks like “Was wollen wir” are really important in my opinion. They remind us that the musical landscape isn’t ultimately defined. Experimenting doesn’t always have to be radical, and the results can be a thing of beauty. And in some rare cases, there are some of lifes’ question answered along the way.
