Di-Rect – Nothing To Lose

This lightweight and fun tune really is something different. No, REALLY.

With an almost Tarantino-esque sense for detail, this track delivers like a sledge hammer. The music itself is done really happy, with a huge amount of groove that makes you move, and the vocals are injecting this very special “so what”-attitude. So far, so good, this would be a perfect tune to start the day with. Or to put on max while stuck in traffic, with the obligatory singing along car windows-down.

Then there’s the video coming with “Nothing To Lose”. To stay true to the theme’s concept, the video is a HUGE level-up to the song. There’s an unreal amount of detail and passion to find in there. The amount of work and thought put in there must have been crazy high, yet the video delivers in a “well, we thought we do this little thingie”-fashion. If the music couldn’t bring a smile to your face (which I doubt by the way), the video will.

I love the fact that Marcel Veenendaal, Frans ‘Spike’ van Zoest, Bas van Wageningen, Jamie Westland and Paul Jan Bakker, the guys better known as Di-Rect, love their craft so much that they put their souls in it. It’s all in there, you can feel it. They are professionals who know that creating awesome music is hard work, but they are also aware that it is important to not take themselves so damn seriously all the time. (By the way, no human being should do that. See? This track even is educational. How awesome is THAT?) This is how to approach music and life in my opinion. Take it from the band: you gotta be naive on purpose sometimes. Have fun, live and love like there’s no tomorrow. You got nothing to lose.
