Filip Dahl – Walking Towards Eternity

Taken from the album “Storyteller”, this track couldn’t be placed in a better frame than the name of the album already gives away. Filip Dahl once again lets music speak louder than words.

In a slow burner setting, the guitar melodies open the chapter of creating a canvas for the listener with melodic progression, and a certain “urgency” woven in between the single notes. I give it to you, the track takes its time, and sometimes this might feel a bit too slow for some. Yet in my opinion, the track does exactly what every good storyteller does. It talks about the topic at hand with a sense of dramaturgy, adding and subtracting energy, and drive as needed. And while the tune does take its time, it feels wholesome and emotional in the process. Melancholic textures woven into the melodies bring some additional heavy-hearted vibe to the table.

All in all, this tune is not be the best fit for cooking sessions, or sitting together with your friends. But it wasn’t intended to be anyway. This track serves as a door-opener for our imagination and thoughts. It’s best enjoyed with closed headphones in a proper quiet setting, where you can see the musical landscape that the track is creating before your inner eyes. And the best part is: you can hear that these melodies originate from the heart and not a notesheet.
