Counting Chances – Fireflies

This, folks, is a dance. It’s not the typical one-one-one dance though. It’s a dance of thoughts. A dance of emotions. A dance of memories and wishes that can be found in your mind. It’s a soft and positive reminder of what was, of what is, and what will be.

For me, the new release of Counting Chances tries to picture what we strive to hold onto. “Fireflies” feels like a short excerpt of a process that takes years. It’s human nature to hold on to pleasing things, right. Even if these things are fragile as fireflies, we rather take the chance to see flickering lights for a brief moment, than to let go of them.

I love the wisdom connected to the tune. Somehow, there’s this core melancholy connected to the sound, what many might refer to as “one laughing and one crying eye”. While the overall theme is of brightness and positivity, there’s also this heavy-hearted vibe present in the back, pictured like a defensive whale song, to remind the listener that it’s not always about the brightness and positivity.

Due to its short concept, the tune won’t take long before telling its story. Yet still, for these couple of minutes we have to be willing to listen to it. This tune, as many others of Counting Chances, simply is not just about the notes. It’s about the feeling, and ultimately, its about what it means to be human. But of course, that’s just my take on it.
