Nové – Claustrophobic

Being about intense internal battles with her insecurities, the new release of American singer/songwriter clearly is not just another shallow pop theme. In a dark and lonely environment, the vocals feel lost and fragile at first. You’d expect the theme to stay in this dark, edgy atmospheric setting, but you’re in for a treat.

I love the transition of the tune. “Claustrophobic” manages to break its melancholic boundaries all of a sudden, making room for an unexpected drive and confidence in form on distinct vocals along a heartbeat-ish groove that sets the new tone for the track to be a statement, not a shy shadow hidden in the back. And it’s exactly this kind of extraordinary storytelling that makes this tune a rare gem.

If THIS unique kind of storytelling is the signature style of Nové, the awesomeness just started. She blends emotion and groove, melodies and rhythm in such a feelable way that the tune both makes you move AND makes you stare at yourself in the mirror silently at the same time. You gotta love this way of creation. It’s not even genre-defying sassiness we are granted here, it’s a confident why-not-statement that truly is paving the way for a new era of genre-bending tunes.
