Cloud Opacity – Backcountry

This tune feels basic at first, yet it evolves into a whole new breed of atmospheric environment. What starts with a chill wind that is set out into a lonely landscape, picks up warm textures and ultra-relaxed minimal melodies along the way. The tune feels like telling a story about wind and time for me. With several melodic components added, blended with one-shot glitches along the way, “Backcountry” surprises with a wholesome story to tell.

Yet make no mistake about it, this isn’t a tune you simply can listen to while on your way home from work, stuck in traffic. The built soundscape needs you to let it paint the picture for you. With closed headphones and closed eyes, you’ll be able to let the wind take you on this journey over barren land, with the sun setting at the horizon. I love the floating element in this track. Everything feels eternal and non-linear, the synth textures indicate a signature-styled non-linearity that travels time and space. With this appeal, the tune not only is an ambient track, but a timeless storyteller as well.
