Neon Fields – Collisions

The new release of South West UK based trio Neon Fields is a masterful storyteller. In the typical signature style we all know and love now, this track stands its ground out there like the other releases. (As an avid follower of the blog, you’ll notice that the guys earned four reviews so far, every single release being an absolute banger in my opinion. So yes, without a doubt I consider myself a fan.)

I absolutely love the concept and the story of the tune. This one’s told by an asteroid speaking in the first person of its imminent collision with earth. Seriously, I’m stunned by the storytelling abilities of this track. With a story like this, the tune builds a dark, dense and at parts almost threatening atmosphere. Where synth textures pass by like fog through a forest, where percussive elements are blended into the darkness like stars at the night sky, and where this calm and beautiful rhythm base guides you through the song – this is an atmosphere where you really are able to feel the music. Soulful vocals are navigating through this condensed void, switching between several moody states as the song progresses. You can see this whole scenario as a metaphore as well. One of the things I love about the tracks of Neon Fields is their purpose to serve as a catalyst for your thoughts. You can just accept the story being told, but many times the lyrics and the mysterious atmospheres invite the listener to rethink about what else the song might stand for. You gotta love this deepness which is put into each and every song.
