Denis Stelmakh, LOAD – Broken Arrow

This one will shake up your moodset. At least that’s what happened to me when I listened to the newest release of neo-classical sextet LOAD and their partner in crime, Denis Stelmakh.

Being a ballad that tells the story of a unrequited love, the tune starts soft and defensive, like a young plant developing its first bloom. With a emotive piano base theme, the tune feels fragile, with a certain excitement hidden in the soft melodies. Just like blooming love, the track feels connected to a certain desire which transforms into a more intensive feel, just to ascent into this almost desperate vibe when the lesson is learned that love won’t always be forever, nor will it always be a two-way street.

All of the guys did a masterful job at transmitting the slowly rising intensity. The tune gains energy along the way, what starts wearing its heart on its sleeve, being hopelessly romantic, gains a certain ‘desperate melancholy’ through the violin tracks, while having this drive and passion through the rhythmic section. What I love about ‘Broken Arrow’ is its ability to reflect emotions in this signature-styled merciless way. We all have been there. We all know this feeling. As soon as you are able to read these words, you know the feeling of disappointment, desperation and dedication. With love, it comes down to the simple rule: it makes you, or it brakes you. Sometimes both at the same time. And the emotions that are woven in this tune, as heavy-hearted it might be, it also is as truthful as it gets. You gotta love this pure honesty.
