KISLO – Mandala

The debut release of electro producer KISLO is a great example of how to disguise something as minimal when in fact it’s the opposite. With a soft and relaxed base, ‘Mandala’ invites you to move to a slow and steady groove, but this serves just as a door-opener in my opinion.

Listen to this. This tune builds an oddworld atmosphere that feels both at home AND lost in space at the same time. There are fine room constructs, giving the song a gigantic appeal, the sound feels focused but on unknown territory, as if this was the soundtrack of a deep space exploration mission. Mysterious percussive elements along a linear calming melody guide you through places where you have never been. Floating melodies are contained by a driving yet non-invasive rhythm, as the sound feels free and satisfied. Nothing in this tune actually is simple, but the song likes to not throw its complexity just out there.

Although there’s a stunning visualizer coming with the track, I urge you to first let your mind paint your own picture before heading there. The picture will be even more intense than the video. If you listen closely, you can hear all those nuances hidden in the tune. Fading echoes in the back, sophisticated percussion and dampened one-shots that give the track a unique shimmer along a signature groove. This is not only a progressive house track. It’s a journey through time and space.
