Tanxugueiras – Midas

This is seriously one of the most intense cultural influenced tunes I heard in a long time. The new release of the Galician female powerhouse trio called Tanxugueiras blasted me with intensity, tension and a haunting melody that I heard in my mind long after the track was finished.

For the record: I LOVE the blend of cultural traditional sounds with modern ones. I admire the ability of artists to transform and adapt several styles and timeframes to a new hybrid of genre, and let’s be honest: if THIS sound isn’t what I just described, then what IS? You’ll find a blend of electronic and handmade percussive elements, minimal synth melodies blending with playful breaks and bellish melodies. While everything of the backing elements is designed to get drive and a haunting base in ‘Midas’, the ultimate ingredient are the vocals of thee three awesome singers Olaia Maneiro, Aida Tarrío and Sabela Maneiro.

Just listening to these outstanding vocalists sort of casts a spell on you, they are virtuose singers who have an enchanting arsenal of vocal and emotional ranges. Within these three and a half minutes of track, they put everything in there to tell their story in the most intense way. There’s desperation, drive, and passion present in those harmonies. These voices are pleading, they are screaming, they are demanding, they are standing their ground and taking a stand as they tell their story. You gotta love the intensity and the wild, untamed and exotic galician soul present in this track. This, ladies and gentleman, is true world music.
