Arttu Silvast – Polarity

With a carefully constructed silky and fragile atmosphere, this track of Finnish composer starts very shy, defensive and vulnerable. For some reason, when I close my eyes while listening, there’s this little bird trying to fly. The sound grows like this bird trying to make it’s first flight ever. Although the success is already engraved in the DNA, the start is defensive and soft, yet as soon as the confidence kicks in, there’s a huge amount of energy just erupting. And from there on there’s nothing holding the tune back.

I love the way in which ‘Polarity’ changes its mood, its textures and its mindset. This evolution of sound is done very seamlessly, it never feels like these are two parts glued together. This little bird I’m seeing becomes aware of its capabilities, and from there on it’s no stopping it from flying towards the morning sun. The sound just contains this unmatched positivity and drive, which can be as much felt as it can be heard. This tune never has to prove anything, it feels like it just draws its certainity from its surrounding. As I like to say: songs like this one are created from the heart.
