Valetta – Dead To The World

You gotta love the psychedelic-ish atmosphere of this tune. Ever had a fever dream? These can range from slightly disturbing to really horryfying, and that same range applies to this tune. (which is meant in the best way there is.) Since the song was inspired by feverish dreams and feelings of isolation, I should warn you that these feelings are pictured perfectly through this track. What starts very organized, only with a slight discomfort in the vocals, gains intensity and tension over time. The added tracks ‘thicken’ the tune after a while, changing the scenery from ‘calm’ to ‘intensely driven and restless’.

And that’s what I love the most about the new release of Valetta. In a way, this tune feels like blood pressure rising, yet there’s always this playful ‘smiling’ component present, be it the falsetto vocals, the high pitched synth arpeggios, or the jumpy percussive elements. ‘Dead To The World’ paints a detailed scenario for the listener, it’s almost retro-flavored elements abduct the listener into this bizarre world of sound and textures where you don’t know if you’re asleep or alive.
