Marney – Fireflies

The new release of the dynamic duo Crystal Douesnard and Thomas Moore, better known as Marney, spans a flawless bridge between past and present, between handmade and electro, and between energetic groove and emotion. Within the first seconds, I was drawn towards this mood-textured futuretro atmosphere that’s created by the the slow and steady groove and the melodic backing. I don’t know what exactly it is about this tune that feels so irresistible. It might be the honesty woven into there. With the soft and at parts almost dreamy scenario the stage is set perfectly for those female vocals that feel comforting, emotional and as truthful as it gets.

For some reason, the track triggers a pretty melancholic vibe in me, yet it’s a very positive one. The one where you think about what you did in the past, smiling at some memories, while shaking your head when thinking about others. ‘Fireflies’ paints the room with what I would describe as a ‘vintage warmth’, it’s a reflection of what sleeps in all of us. The memories that we hold dear, along the things we are still about to do. While some of them might me energetic and plain crazy, others will bring back the exact warmth of this track. With the tune telling about the importance of holding on to our innocence and finding hope in an uncertain world, it brings this positivity into a world that’s – let’s be honest – has not given us to much to be positive about lately. We need this kind of music like we need the sun.
