Track Review

Jay II – eleven eleven

At first, the sound is crawling up to you like thick fog. Somewhat distant, cold, but with an familiar undertone. The new release of electropop duo Jay II once again fills the room with a somewhat ‘unforgiving’ groove that contains both a harsh environment and vocals with such intensity that they make you shiver.

What I love about this track is its purity. The minimal elements happening in there, from beat to percussion, is done in a very straightforward sense. The used elements, like the eq band dampeners and reverb chains, are not experimental nor extraordinary, but done so defensive and methodical that they have full effect when they are used. All this serves as a perfect base for those icy, almost calculating vocals, which sound as if life trained them not to feel anything anymore. And yet there is so much emotion to find in them. You gotta love this dual vibe.
