For me, this track describes life in a very special way. Ever watched an anthill? All those little fellows with their irresistible will and goal, everyone has something to do, and the whole hill seems like a giant creature made of all those tiny creatures. That’s pretty much the vibe I’m getting from ‘With You’ as well.
There’s this soft curiosity happening along a steady beat, the sound feels energetic without being hectic or restless, and while some might say that quirky synth melody is misplaced, I love it for being there, for standing its ground as a loner that tries to fit in. In a world where everything seems in constant motion, the sound describes the need to fit in for me. The sound gets interrupted just to find its rhythm back again later, these changes are a vital ingredient of the track. And while the Canadian artist describes his music as ‘irregular, introverted, and intimate’, I beg to differ on the introvert part. Shy, maybe. But for those who want to listen closely, the vibe of this tune is very relatable, and it’s distinct enough to stand its curious and exciting ground in a world that’s dominated by mainstream.
