Chris McGraw – Welcome to Reality
Taken off the album ‘Reason & Romance’ which was released a couple of days ago, this track is contains an intriguing mixture of classic and rock elements. No, that’s not falling into the ‘classic rock’ genre. This tune creates a whole new genre.
What feels almost like a soothing lullaby at first, ascends to evolve into a uplifting melodic anthem over time. Multitalent McGraw managed to give this tune not only a story but a full-blown resumee. There’s a certain retro-flavored way of storytelling involved, the lonely guitar sings it sad song in a widespread atmosphere, the strings wrap the listener into a warm blanket made of sound, while the vocals add depth and emotion in a very relatable way. Although ‘Welcome to Reality’ does take unexpected turns while it progresses, it always feels natural, as if the track was meant to do so because it is written in its DNA. It’s this distinct vibe that makes this tune a genre-defying gem.
