Magali, a Cult – The Key

The new release of New York based electro artist going by the name of Magali, a Cult, is full of surprises. You’ll find oldschool arpeggiated synths in there, lush and enchanting female vocals, crisp percussion, driving bass lines, and a steady groove, but arranged in the most non-linear fashion possible.

This playful electronic environment created by the tune is really intriguing. I love these differences that can be found on several levels. Soft vs. driving, retro vs. future, electro vs. human, linear progression vs. unexpected outbursts – there are lots of differences that are blending in to become one in this tune. And it’s this tension that attracts me most in ‘The Key’. Some might say that some of the sudden elements counter the linear groove, but I say this exactly is the beauty of this tune. We have a ton of linear danceable tracks out there already. But this tune feels like it’s creating a world around you. Wherever you look, there’s something to explore, with the vocals serving as a soft beacon to guide you.
