Quick Shots #18: Noelene Power

/ What does the rest of the year hold for you? Any projects coming up?
/ Noelene Power:
None as of now, but I’ve been really honing in on my personal writing skills. I am currently learning guitar and my goal is to be able to accompany myself at one of my own shows in the future.

/ Yoga or music – what came first? Tell us a bit about your bond with yoga and how you became a yoga teacher.
/ Noelene Power:
I’ve always been an athlete. I actually ran Division I in college, so growing up it was always athletics first, music second. It wasn’t until I attended Berklee College of Music that I really ignited my passion for singing again. I have been practicing yoga for 7 years now, and it’s a great way to connect the mind and the body which is vital for all aspects of life, including finding inspiration for songs as it involves getting in touch with your feelings. I’ve always wanted to become a yoga teacher but it wasn’t until lockdown that I was able to find the time to really dig deep into teacher training. Turns out, having to stay inside all the time gave me the space to do a lot of things on my bucket list!

/ What is your source of inspiration during these crazy times?
/ Noelene Power:
So I really hate to say this because I refused to get the App for the longest time but TikTok has been a wonderful source of inspiration for me. I’ve seen tons of singer-songwriters on there with 30-60 second clips of their songs that you can duet/harmonize with and it has opened my eyes to the incredible talent that is out there. You don’t need autotune or a fully produced song to be a good musician. Raw talent can be captivated even if the audio and visual quality aren’t top-notch.
