Eva Brooks – Smoke

This tune feels cold and dark. You gotta love it. With a warm dark synth base and a methodical groove, the track builds an atmosphere that feels somewhat uncomfortable at first, but the listener learns quickly to embrace this scenery, as it feels familiar as well. While the hypnotic and captivating vocals set in, the track changes pattern and form. For me, the sound itself surrounds me like a bubble (closed headphones are mandatory, folks!), the whole surrounding feels in constant slow motion. In the process, ‘Smoke’ really spans the perfect bridge between melancholy and positivity.

I love the dark reflecting base of ‘Smoke’. The german musician Brooks knows exactly how to put feeling into her music. These etheral extra vocals give the surrounding texture and depth, while the pulsating synths along the crisp rhythm set makes you move to the sound. This isn’t just a happy fire-and-forget song but something that digs deep into your mind, trying to make you embrace the unknown. I love it when music feels like therapy, and boy, this track aims for your mind as much as it does for the eardrums.
