Valencia James – All The Waves

The new release of New York born, Sydney bred dark-pop artist Valencia James hits with an unexpected mix of melancholy and power. I love this mixture of crystalline moody vibes along a positive empowering feel. Those beautiful defensive vocals are backed with a lost piano in a wide-reverbed atmospheric setting, indicating so much pain and low-feeling, that you don’t expect the tune to even turn around, introducing this light at the end of the tunnel all of a sudden. With a defensive yet ultra-effective mixture of electro components and a slow methodical groove, the voice which first felt lost and hurt, feels like in charge of everything all of a sudden.

This tune lives by the less-is-more definition. Using only the necessary amount of both single elements and energy, the tune transmits its emotional core very carefully, yet laser focused. ‘All The Waves’ will lift you up when you’re feeling down, it’s a reminder of whatever gets thrown at you, this won’t be the end. Time to stand up, dust off and fight back.
