Bonobo – Brighton Tapes 01

A trippy journey to the past.

This track contains a whole universe of somewhat vintage organic sounds. The groove that is created fills the room with an edgy, glassy groove that feels partly unknown yet somewhat familiar. Along a steady and methodical base there are several effect tracks happening, putting the tune in a dimmed mysterious setting. Framed by vocal one-shots and unusual instrument tracks that give the tune an outlandish glow, the track stays true to the original base concept while giving the ears something deeper to explore.

I think the drummer in me really loves this edgy, crisp rhythm setting. The music lover in me loves the fact that this is an unreleased demo that in fact was originally created about 20 years ago. This vintage mood along the analogue vibe attached really feels like a trippy journey to the past. It’s plain awesome that everything in this track, from idea to groove, stayed intact although this might not be the best well-rounded mix I ever heard. Thinking of it, it maybe IS the best mix for specifically this tune, because any other setting would destroy this majestic glow of the past happening in ‘Brighton Tapes 01’.
