Track Review

Carré – Urgency

This one is full of surprises.

I have to admit, the guys of French group Carré really tricked me here. What starts a s a steady hypnotic techno theme unexpectedly changes genres and pace all of a sudden. There I was, writing my first impression declination, like ‘steady and containing a certain groove, but…’ when all of a sudden the track went nuts.

Once those distorted fat bass synths along those melodic solo parts and the half-electro drum/bass part set in, you’re in for a treat. The tune injects adrenaline and mysterious atmospheric nuances right into your bloodstream, making ‘Urgency’ feel both oddworld-ish and groovy. The one-shot and supporting tracks create a really unreal scenery in which there are seemingly no boundaries. Everything just works somehow. Hypnotic cold-metallic vocals, screaming percussive elements, arpeggiated high-pitched meodies…it all just fits in there. Don’t let the carefree mix fool you – this is not a track happened coincidentically, but a carefully arranged and mixed work of beauty.
