Charmless i – Take Me Home Tonight

It’s edgy. It feels harsh. It’s raw and somewhat retro.
…it’s perfect.

Let’s see… we got a basic distorted guitar. We got a crisp and driving methodical beat. We got vocals that fall into the passionate but quite retro-monotonous category. If we but all of this into a big bowl, shake it thoroughly, we will get ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ as a result. This is best enjoyed with a side drink, sunglasses. Oh, and the volume knob turned to the part where it says ‘max’.

I cannot help but wonder why this track is so addictive to me. Maybe the setting reminds me of some vintage tune I heard years ago. Maybe the perceived simplicity calms me down, maybe the felt linear concept gives me some structure. Maybe those direct and energetic vocals along the edgy guitars feel like my new anthem to start and/or end the day in style. Maybe it’s the impressive seemingly simple mixing work (but believe me, there’s nothing simple to find in the carefully arranged tune). I can’t put my finger on what keeps me plaing this track on repeat. I just know that this tune is awesome. Now excuse me, I got to get my sunglasses.
