WRENN – Internet Gaming

Groovy melancholy with a twist.

The guitar and beat combination of the song create a solid foundation that doesn’t give any secret away the song has to offer. The lush female vocals feel strangely familiar, as if you are talking to an old friend you haven’t seen in years. There’s a certain been-there-done-that-wisdom swinging along the voice as the singer builds towards the energy and tension in the chorus. Once the song reaches this boiling point, the track gets an awesome, almost desperate undertone.

Maybe it’s just my moodset today, but to me it feels like this was sort of payback of the Los Angeles based singer/songwriter. Although there’s melancholy to find in the melodies and lyrics, this is something different. It’s more than just sadness or disregard, this is a statement that the world just crossed the line. I love when an artist is able to really transmit feelings along their songs. And ‘Internet Gaming’ contains this sad-ish view that offers more than meets the eye. This is melancholic groove with a twist that needs an own genre. This, guys, is what I like to call ‘wrennancholy’.
