Under The Gallows – Insomnia

Taken off the recently released EP ‘Under the Gallows’, this track is filled with melancholy and passion.

While the backing creates a somewhat dark and mysterious setting, the edgy vocals feel like they are trying to find a way out of this maze of thoughts. Along the music there’s this natural honesty attached which makes the tune very believable to me. The awesome sleepless atmosphere was captured with a slow tempo and these haunting guitar tracks in the back, making the sound feel very ‘lost and tired’ until it picks up speed.

With the drums slowly creating tension, seemingly ‘pulling’ the song forward, the chorus part feels confident like a long overdue decision, or an epiphany while you lie there in your bed, trying to sort your thoughts. I am somewhat blown away by the fact that there is not much needed to create all of this scenery, the track isn’t overloaded with effects nor tons of single tracks, its just the guys and their instruments (and of course, a hellagood mixing guy on the faders). This is how handmade alt rock is done. The guys of Under the Gallows take their time, and then they deliver like they were born to do so.
