Devin Kennedy – Happy Yet

Thoughtful tracks like these deserve a new genre name. I guess we’d call them… ‘Devinpop’.

Those emotional and soulful vocals know how to ride on this groove to create a warm, relaxed vibe. With the guitar track as a backing, the intro feels somewhat melancholic, but the following electro base adds some soul into the track. All of a sudden, ‘Happy Yet’ feels like a tune to slow dance to.

The intelligent percussion and effect one-shots add some highlights to the scenery, while the melodic and skilful vocals keep the track attached to this warm human flair. With the track being a reminder that there’s more to life than chasing what everyone else has, it really knows how to deliver this message in style. The tune contains just enough electro element to be fresh and groovy without being too uplifting, keeping the serious undertone intact. I love the interaction between lightweight rhythms and melodies, and the serious melancholic flavor, this isn’t just electro pop, it’s a creational move to let you both move AND think. This is how to create thoughtful tunes.
