Low Island – Long Answer

This tune has something special attached. With a quite cold (better: cool) rhythm and percussion section and a very defensive bass line backing, the track walks a thin line between being handmade and electro.

The human feel comes mostly from the melodic vocals, while the whole surrounding feels very electro. For me, the song created an atmosphere as if you were exploring the inside of an analogue watch. Surrounded by all these ‘moving objects’ and sort of a restless feel coming with it, the song reflects the mind being torn between everyday’s little things which can make you mad sometimes. The vocals act as a guiding beacon for me, with all those tracks and effects in motion, the vocals are a warm and almost retro constant in “Long Answer”.

What I like most about the new release of british band Low Island is the versatility. With everything that’s happening in the track, this tune is able to paint a picture for me that is both playful and serious. Both human and electro. Both retro and futuristic. In my opinion it’s really hard to blend these elements together without the risk of losing one effect completely. I really don’t know how they did it, but the guys of Low Island managed to create a song that cannot be categorized with just one genre. Jep. We need to create a new genre. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the grooving sound of ‘Lowlectro’.
