Anushka Jag – Taboo

With a soft and lush voice, the singer/songwriter with indian heritage manages to enchant you right away. The lightweight music backing with a lot of reverbed elements is a perfect base for those vocals to shine, and Anushka Jag easily spans across a huge note range as if it was the easiest thing to do. Also, she changes the general mood of her voice in an instant from emotional over fragile and vulnerable to confident, sexy and sassy.

Like a great book, for me the song tells the story about the everyday struggle we all face. Going through several stages of moodsettings, Jag knows how to trigger emotions in the listener, leaving us all with that “I know what she’s talking about”-feel. And feelings aside, with all those signature elements added, like the full stop before the chorus drops, these extraordinary percussion elements or the slow dance groove, this new release of Jag is meant to be put on repeat.
