Val Maugenest – Compete

The somewhat crystalline silky atmosphere of the new release of Val Maugenest really feels like a slowmotion moment in time.

This track is loaded with soul. Not rushing anything regarding rhythm or tempo, the music caresses your ears like silk. I love the emotional, almost fragile vocals blending in perfectly with groove-soaked rhythm tracks. Also, there’s this almost eastern guitar-ish instrument, giving ‘Compete’ that special fragile flavor along the defensive synth tracks.

The track got me hooked due to the quite minimalistic setting. There’s just so much elements in there to have a full effect on the listener, no unnecessary side tracks, no extra percussion – just the exact amount of what is needed to get that awesome groove going. The electro elements in there add kind of a ‘cold’ vibe to the tune which is an awesome move, speaking of signature style. In this environment, the stage is all set for these sensual vocals to put a spell on you.
