Homestead – Lifeline

You can’t fake groove, folks, it’s there, or it is not. And I bet you’ll be grooving to this tune.

That distorted guitar track is the center of attention here. Backed by a quite minimal beat and some extra soft elements like this classy organ synth, the music transmits a very cool and defiant atmosphere. This track would be great as an instrumental right away, but wait – there’s more. The vocals of “Lifeline” are plain crazy. While the mix of the song is gravitating around wow effects, the vocals are no different. They’re mixed ultra crisp to create that feel as if the singer was standing inches away from you. I gotta admit I felt somehow ‘watched’, and it wasn’t too comfortable at first. But once you’ve arrived in the world of Homestead, it all makes sense, and you’re ready to put that satisfied smile on. The songs’ atmosphere HAS TO be edgy, chill and dark to cause what I like to call the ‘Homestead Syndrome’.

For me, “Lifeline” is all about tension. Due to the ultra-crisp mix, there’s a huge amount of raw energy just lurking in there. See how the single elements seem pretty minimal sometimes? It’s like a tiger circling its prey. You just know this situation will erupt eventually, but isn’t it just great to wait for it? The screams and shouts are a statement of what the track holds in store for the listener. The intelligent usage of the single tracks used in there is prove that Liam and Joël, the guys behind Homestead, know and feel what they’re doing.
