Comfort Addict – Why Don’t You Tell Me

The new release of the Stockholm based guys of Comfort Addict takes me straight to the disco. But not the fully retro type, more like the… retrolectro type. Yes, that is a genre. Well, NOW it is.

This is the sound that’s created when you merge the sound of retro disco (and I’m talking mighty 70s retro here) with nowadays synths and some playful yet energetic vocals. “Why Don’t You Tell Me” contains this awesome uplifting groove that makes you want do dance even if you really really shouldn’t do so. (Well, that’s what happened to me, I was chair-dancing with my headphones on when my wife entered the room, telling me I was looking like ‘a manatee connected to a car battery’. Mean? Definetly. But I’m afraid that’s pretty accurate.)

Those broad, deep synths are the perfect base for the higher melody synths and of course, those vocals that contain a small bit of melancholy to make the sound really filled with flavor, feeling-wise. The rhythm is driving enough to keep the track pumping and breathing, but not too pressing nor defensive to kill that mighty disco-ish groove. The chorus line is catchy and sticks to your brain instantly. Well folks, there you have it – signature style, feel, groove, and a mixdown that feels like drinking a good sherry: soft, warm and combined with a crisp feel. There’s everything in the new release of the swedish band to make it an instant classic.
Now please excuse me. I gotta do the manatee again while no one’s watching.
